Revisiting an Old Friend

Today in my studio I am revisiting the forgotten pile of older canvases. Stacked against the wall , dust starting to build on their edges. Paintings that never made the final approval… from the artist’s eye. At a certain point are they cut into pieces and put in the trash or do you carefully remove them from the wood bars to be rolled and stacked some where else only to stay out of the audiences’  eye.

The ones with value , and the thought of being something new are put back on the easel and carefully viewed. Slowly adding more paint. The artist decides what is gone forever and what is a strength by building on it. Covering and recreating a new friend.

Sometimes the result is one of my favourite pieces again not for the audience but only the artist . Placed carefully into my studio or on a wall in my own home never to be sold.
